Adventure Cove, Marina Barrage, Botanic Gardens, Acid Bar, Slappy Cakes & ideas to surprise your girlfriend!

Hey all since it's my holidays and I wish to take a break from working at Sistic, I could start a new blog. Since there are no posts, I'm just gonna posts some photos from last time. Am pretty sure not many people would read it but anyway let's take a look at some events of 2014.

I'll try my best to arrange it in chronological order as mush as I can but given my goldfish memory hmm we shall see LOL!

* Let me just state that I am in NO WAY ENDORSED by anyone/anything, whatever I posted is based solely on my experience and my personal opinions*

Adventure Cove
Went to Adventure Cove with my girlfriend for the first time. It was so fun but the queues were a major mood-spoiler, the longest we had to queue was about 2 hours just to slide down. But nonetheless we had lots of fun because hey it's a couple thing! Legend has it that it is mandatory to take a photo in front of this entrance. The staff who helped me take this shot was very friendly. He provided many tips on our itinerary.

Their lazy pool is amazing, the interior of the caves are so beautifully designed, almost feeling like I'm really in real cave pool. It was decorated with blue ambient lights with life guards at every checkpoint to ensure safety. You would find lots of floats floating around. We grabbed alot to create a barrier between us and the others since not many people wants it.

Must play
  • Spiral Washout
  • Whirl Pool Washout
  • Duel Racer
  • Lazy Pool
Ticket Price:
$36/ Adult
$26/Child(4-12 years old) OR Senior Citizen (60 years and above)

Opening Hours: 10am-6pm daily (Subject to changes)
For more information can click RWS Adventure Cove

TIPS:  Very important to note based on our experience.
  • Bring a waterproof handphone/camera pouch (With neck sling)
  • Bring at least $10 cash and coins (Coins for the lockers, $10 to be placed IN your waterproof casing for food)
You will definitely be hungry after all the fun (BUT NOTE THAT STUFF THERE IS NOT CHEAP AT ALL AS USUAL)
  • Advised to wear cheapo slippers unless you are so vain you want to wear your branded shoes/slippers. Put it in the lockers but we couldn't as our locker was full, we placed it on TOP of the lockers and surprisingly when we came back it was still there!
  • Please drink more water, you won't feel the thirst but I can assure you that with all that fun, you will definitely be dehydrated one way or another
  • Idiot-proof but try not to go on school holidays as it would be insanely packed and the insane queue would undoubtedly dampen your fun
  • Remember to take the mandatory shot, have fun and as always, SAFETY FIRST!

Picnic @ Marina Barrage

As the title states, we went to Marina Barrage and found a sweet spot which had ample shade and privacy yet can still enjoy the beautiful scenery. But nothing is more beautiful than my girlfriend!
We agreed on bringing one home-made food each and we delegated other food/drinks to each other.

I cooked fried rice and she made sandwiches (As usual if you know what I mean)
Bought $2 or $2.50 (can't remember) ANANAS Chicken Rice (DAMN SEDAP I TELL YOU, Hard to find cheap and good chicken rice nowadays)
Bought a bottle of 1.5l coke some chips with nacho cheese, Maker's Mark liqor and sushi. And not to forget desert, astronaut ice cream from our one and only Singapore Science Centre!

The Astronaut Ice Cream tastes alright, can't expect much cause it's freeze dried. She likes it. It simply melts in your mouth like any regular ice cream except it's not cold.

A trip to botanic gardens

She wishes to take photographs of greenery for her art coursework so we went to the botanical gardens!
The mozzies should be very happy because I am feeding them. Mosquitoes like me alot I have no idea why. Anyhow she took her pictures and as always we took some too!

When I saw them banana trees, Bollywood possessed me

Acid Bar

So my friends decided to hangout at this bar so we gave it a try. Staff were quite friendly, we order drinks but didn't order any lychee shots not sure why. However when we came in the staff will check your identification so best to bring it with you ( who doesn't bring their IC with them nowadays hmm). Prolly because one or two of us look like kids (I'm guilty of this okay HAHAHAHA). So they actually gave us a very small round table which could barely sit 4 people but we had 5 people. So after warming those seats we requested for a change of seats, pointing to a sofa-like seat with a larger table. But was informed that those seats were reserved for customers who ordered alot of stuff. We reasoned with them not because we are assholes but the table is really ridiculously small it's like the candle took up 90% of the space ok exaggeration but you get the point. After a little of friendly verbal exchanges, the staff allowed us to take those better seats.

We ordered drinks and eventually ordered fries and their wings which are quite nice. I really love the live singing there. They were barefooted and had really cute socks on (Their style I guess). We requested a few songs and they really sung it, their voices really makes me wonder if there are others who have voices that should be more recognized.

Slappy Cakes @ Old Turf Club

My friends suggested that I bring my girlfriend there so I did. But this place is rather inaccessible, would be alot better that you have a car. I drove there and it was kind of hard to get in there as the road is not very level and it's kind of confusing, 50% was because I'm a noob driver. Drove in to an area which I thought was a carpark ( In my own defence I saw alot of cars parked there carpark style hor) then as I drove in and realized it was like a car display area or repair idk but I drove out and went in further and finally reached the carpark.

The place was very quiet and peaceful, got alot of hot ang moh guys there so if you like ang moh guys or girls can go there *hint hint*. We walked one big round only to realize that the restaurant was right here all along LOL! We went in and to our surprise it was totally empty, we basically owned the restaurant during our entire visit woo! No need to book the whole restaurant to get private dining time. We ordered the buttermilk batter and like 4-5 side add-on. We got the banana, bacon bits, raspberries, strawberry, can't remember the last one though. And not forgetting the maple syrup topping.

Can't really remember exactly how much it cost but the guy gave us the student deal or something so it was around $20 for 2 pax??

In my opinion the toppings were really not up to my expectations, okay la most of the toppings I can accept it but the one thing that I cannot accept is the "Crispy bacon", it was far cry from what the name suggests, okay first of all it was not crispy at all and it was extremely dry like the Sahara desert and the portion was negligible.  The staff who took our order was polite and nice, he explained the set to us. But after he took our order I requested for 2 cups of iced water. Our food eventually came but my iced water never came. It was like waiting for someone to like my photos. I eventually got so thirsty that the drink that comes with my set couldn't quench my thirst and had to request again. Oh yes halfway during our wait, the waiter came out with another waiter and told us to repeat our order... we had to painstakingly recall our orders and he didn't even apologize, he just said it was his mistake that he got it mixed up with other sets. (I don't blame him for making a mistake, everyone makes mistakes but the least he could do was to apologize?) But overall experience was passable though thanks to the peaceful environment. There was a GIANT at the basement which is abit weird since that area is kind of inaccessible without a car. Maybe it's catered for those rich people like those rich ang mohs.

 Ideas to surprise your girlfriend

Hey guys, here are some ideas that you could actually refer to for your girlfriend. Of course I'm not going to say these are easy but it definitely shows your effort. My girlfriend loves it. I got some of these ideas over the internet while researching on stuff that I can do for her when I am free. But obviously you have to be flexible and make changes to suit your needs. Don't follow blindly like the video on youtube write I love you Samantha you don't go writing I love you Samantha on your masterpiece, you would have a heck of a time explaining I swear.
Saw this really cute bear rice set so I decided to give it a try. Not the best but yep she loves it. She couldn't bear to eat it.

Bear lunch box
Ingredients needed:
  1. Rice (1 Cup will do)
  2. Seaweed ( Just get those one rectangular strip ones)
  3. 2 eggs (Pillow)
  4. Ketchup (Decoration)
  5. Slice of cheese (Decoration)
  6. Broccoli (Decoration + healthy)
  7. Water to cook the rice (The water level should be near your knuckles when you place ur palm in the cooker)
  8. Cooking oil (to fry the egg)
Materials needed:
  1.  Knife
  2. Chopsticks
  3. Frying Pan
  4. Rice Cooker
  5. Spatula
  6. Scissors
  7. Saucepan
  8. Bowl
  9. Plate
  10. Food-grade gloves/plastic cling
Steps:
  1. Wash and cook the rice (This takes the longest time)
  2. Go play Dota 2 or whatever game you like until rice finishes cooking
  3. Skip step 3 if you want to be more efficient, prepare the ingredients to something like this (Cut the seaweed, wash container etc)
  4. Beat the eggs
  5. Fry it (For the love of the pillow please don't over do it until it becomes chao ta, you don't sleep on a piece of charcoal do you? So don't make the bear be the first)
  6. Would greatly aid you if you have a rectangular frying pan
  7. Roll it up like a rectangular head pillow and cut a large slice to act as the blanket for the bear
  8. Briefly boil the broccoli (Choose a few stumps of the nicer bits) [Like 30 secs is enough, just kill the germs]
  9. Let the rice cool down abit first
  10. Once rice has cooled, add oil to the pan and start frying it for a little while like 10 secs
  11. Add ketchup until desired colour and fry for about 2 minutes will do as it's already cooked
  12. Knit a ball of rice (PLEASE WEAR FOOD GRADE GLOVES or use food-grade cling wrap, V important if not she eat already food poisoning I swear you will teleport to hell)
  13. Basically make something like this or whatever you like.
  14. Cut the seaweed into your gf's initials and add some ketchup on it.

52 reasons why I love you!
Materials needed:
  1. A Deck of poker cards (Preferably new)
  2. Permanent marker
  3. Colourful scrap paper with designs that she likes
  4. Scissors
  5. Glue (try to use those non-watery glue, please don't use UHU glue, you will AHU AHU later on)
  6. Ruler
Steps:
  1. Put aside the joker cards (Don't throw you will need it later)
  2. Measure the length and breadth (Horizontal and vertical dimensions of the cards)
  3. This is the tedious part, painstakingly cut out the scrap paper into the dimensions as measured 54 times. Good luck bro try not to get angry and tear the cards.
  4. Once you are done, paste them on each card (the playing side) 54 times (including the 2 joker cards)
  5. Write a reason on each playing card
  6. Write the title like this and add your own unique design or decorations with your gf's name

Valentine's day gift (I think)
Actually this one you can give it to her at any time. I don't really make her stuff or cook for her on specific occasions, I just do it whenever I am free as much as I can. You should love your girlfriend everyday not only one day. Thought special occasions do deserve slightly more attention like vday or gf birthday.
Searched high and low for a suitable box, got this box from Daiso as it  has polkadots on it and it's baby pink which is one of my girlfriend's favourite colour
Please don't say I'm cheap, just say economic okay! It's the effort that counts.
The white balls that you see in there are the stuffing, I searched high and low for the strips kind but they were no where to be found...

List of items inside:
*Note the stuff that I included are specifically for my girlfriend only, it's stuff that she likes so please change it accordingly*
  • A bag of chocolate
  • 2 lollipops
  • 2 Strips of sour candy
  • A kinder Joy egg (let's admit it everybody loves the chocolate and surprise toy)
  • A eyebrow pencil that she mentioned that she wants sometime back
  • A mini hang-on-bag hand sanitizer
  • Love note
